The Damrak is the most famous place in Amsterdam to take photos and has some of the funkiest looking buildings, as seen below. You can always come here to take pictures but I thought it looked a lot better during the blue hour / night.

The corner of the Sint Olofssteeg offers a unique perspective on the canals and typical Amsterdam architecture. This place is a bit different from most in the city as there is no sidewalk around the buildings.

From the bridge at Binnenkant you have a view over the Waalseilandgracht (canal). This channel is quite beautiful because you have boats docked and it also turns a bit. I came here both in the morning and at the blue hour and I really liked the reflections.

For the best view of Amsterdam from above, take a short walk from Amsterdam Central Station to the Amsterdam Public Library. Access to the library is free and once you enter, take the elevator straight to the top floor and La Place Caf&eacute;. Grab a coffee and sit down and enjoy some of the best views of the city. The outside terrace is not open in winter, but in summer the view from the top is truly breathtaking.

For perfect Amsterdam architecture and possible reflections, go to the corner of Kalkmarkt and Binnenkant. I found this corner to be a great representation of the city.

From the Bushuissluis (bridge) you can capture views of the historic De Waag. This building lights up bright yellow at night, but if you are late it will be difficult to balance your exposure to it and the environment.

Along the Groenburgwal you get a nice perspective on the Zuiderkerk. I would recommend checking this place out during the day as well.

The Munt Tower on the Muntplein is a remnant of the Regulierspoort built between 1480 and 1487, part of the old medieval city wall. The Regulierspoort had two towers with a gatehouse in between.

Begijnhof is an 800 year old chapel, tucked away in a street close to the Flower Market, it is one of the oldest courtyards (or almshouses) in Amsterdam. The women who originally founded the Begijnhof were religious lay women who did not take the vow of faith or chastity. Their primary focus has been caring for the sick and poor of Amsterdam through the ages, This collection of beautiful old houses clustered around the square is an oasis of tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets surrounding it and it is a great place for some unique photos of the quieter side of Amsterdam.

Reguliersgracht is one of the most picturesque and peaceful canals in the center. It is also the location of "Seven Bridges Amsterdam" which is sought after by photographers.

Probably my favorite place in Amsterdam to take pictures is the bridges where Leidsegracht and Keizersgracht meet. It's a great place to capture light trails from passing boats, like the one below and in the first photo above. The bridges also have a ring of lights around them that look great at night.

The Rijksmuseum is a classic place and in winter you will find an ice rink, perfect for creating winter images. There used to be a sign that was very popular for selfies as well, but has since been removed. When there is no wind, you can also get perfect reflections in the water feature.

On the Lomanstraat, near the west side of the Vondelpark, you will find a cultural landmark of the city. The trees in this street lean towards each other, creating crosses above the street. Regardless of the season, this is an image you will not soon forget.
