The Church of St. Johns is a testament to the glorious part of the capital of Lithuania. From ancient times celebrations and events of national significance were held here, and with particular honor, important guests were met here. The title of “St. Johns” was given to the church in honor of John the Baptist, St. John the Evangelist, and other saints named John -- inside of the church twelve statues of saints rest on brackets, each with the name John. The laying of the building occurred under Grand Duke Jogaila, at the end of the 14th century. However, because of wars and fires construction was completed and the church was consecrated only in the first third of the 15th century. Inside of the church on the stone throne of the altar is a silver ark with a metallographic picture of the Last Supper. A colorful composition is mounted above the ark: The Savior is being baptized by John. Inside the church there is also a small museum where there are old paintings, sculptures, and coins. On the highest tier is an open observation deck, which you may go up to if you wish. This can be done either on foot, by climbing up 250 steps, or with an elevator. Exit the courtyard back onto the street, turn right, and stop on the T-shaped intersection
